Last updated: 8 September 2026

1. Scope

This privacy statement applies to the Papua New Guinea Customs Service Maritime Risk Profiling System (MARPIS), an official government website and e-service. Personal information collected through this site is held by the Papua New Guinea Customs Service.

2. When we collect personal information

PNG Customs collects personal information when you:

  • create or use an authorised officer or shipping-agent account
  • submit vessel, crew, voyage, or cargo information
  • send feedback or an enquiry and ask for a response
  • sign in (authentication and session records)

Information may include name, email, role, company details, maritime operational data, and audit logs of system activity.

3. How we use and disclose information

Personal information is used for customs risk profiling, pre-arrival verification, inspection coordination, audit accountability, and secure service delivery. It is used only for authorised government purposes. Disclosure to other agencies occurs only where legally permitted and operationally required (for example inter-agency referrals).

4. Cookies

This website uses cookies that are required for the service to work:

  • Authentication session cookies — keep you signed in securely. They are not used for advertising.
  • Language cookie (maris-ui-lang) — remembers whether you chose English or Tok Pisin.
  • Browser storage for accessibility — remembers text size and high-contrast settings on your device.

If you disable cookies, sign-in and language preference may not work.

5. Security

MARPIS uses role-based access control, password hashing, secure sessions, audit logging, and protected database access. Unauthorised access is prohibited.

6. Your rights

You may request correction of account information through system administrators. Access to operational records is governed by agency policy and applicable law.
